Democracy and Field

The African American Roundtable is increasing its civic engagement and base building efforts on Milwaukee's far Northwest Side by engaging residents in Aldermanic Districts 5 & 9. We’ve identified these districts as traditionally under-engaged on the ground by grassroots organizations. Help us to organize and engage residents by volunteering to help us canvass or phone bank.

AART believes that our current democracy is deeply flawed, because it has always excluded the people. Though we’ve made strides to make it more accessible through turning out for elections, winning voting rights, and making policy changes, we are in dire need for a more Transformative Democracy.

AART defines Transformative Democracy as a way to build a shared political ideology with those who have been marginalized. This process is rooted in equitable, collective decision-making about our futures and will shape how we fight for freedom and stability in our community.

Our field team engages with residents around our shared ideology and supports them with a pathway to supporting our vision of collective decision-making to  manifest this more equitable democracy.

  • Organizing our neighbors to take action through civic engagement

  • Sharing opportunities for residents to engage with AART

  • Listening to our neighbor's needs and wildest dreams for the northwest side
