We Believe in Milwaukee

Local organizations come together with demands for mayor.

In this historic election across race and zip code, we are coming together to collectively demand a Milwaukee mayor that believes in all of Milwaukee.  Just as we showed up for one another, voted in record numbers, and marched for safety and justice throughout this pandemic, we are again coming together for our city. We envision a Milwaukee where all residents can thrive. We are teachers, bus drivers, nurses, retail workers, students, faith leaders, and caregivers. We are a community that cares for one another. We believe that our communities know what we need to grow and thrive together. We demand a mayor that believes in all of Milwaukee.

We demand that our next mayor is committed to funding Milwaukee families and all Milwaukee neighborhoods. It’s time for Milwaukeeans to get a mayor that wants the best neighborhoods, schools, streets and community safety for everyone in the city. We deserve and demand a mayor that cares about our hard-working families from the south side to the north side, from east to west. We know that from Wilson Park to Sherman park, and all the communities in between, all Milwaukee communities deserve to be able to put food on the table. We know we deserve to be able to go to the doctor when they need care, have their mental health needs met, and move through our streets without fear of being stopped by ICE or MPD. We need a Milwaukee mayor to engineer safer streets, provide a strategic plan for snow removal and trash collection, and create economic opportunities for all of our neighborhoods.

We know some candidates want to fund the Milwaukee Police Department, adding to their bloated budgets that stop our city from thriving. Those same candidates want to shame and blame us for the hardships they create, trying to distract us with uninspiring safety plans that perpetuate over-policing. At the same time, they close our hospitals, deny our schools resources, and hand the money they take from our communities to their corporate donors, police backers and the wealthiest in our state. We know that defunding Milwaukee – our after-school programs, housing, community healthcare, mental healthcare, neighborhood youth programs in arts, music, writing, driver’s ed and more – is a choice we don’t have to keep making.

It’s time we get a Milwaukee where all can move through our communities without fearing for ourselves or our loved ones. A Milwaukee where we can see a doctor when we need it and have a hospital nearby with doctors who heal us with compassion and respect – without going bankrupt. A Milwaukee where we can fund our neighborhoods and create community safety, where we put the resources in the hands of the people, and not nonresponsive law enforcers who can't prevent violence and poverty but come to bring harm and trauma to our communities. We demand a Milwaukee that is a safe place to make memories with loved ones and lay our heads at night. A Milwaukee where neighborhood schools have the resources, teachers, and technology they need to spark imagination and teach critical thinking.

We believe in ALL of Milwaukee. Join us and let the candidates know that we demand a mayor for all in Milwaukee.
